Career Success Resources

I'd like to put together some pages and/or blog posts to review and list career success resources. I get a lot of questions on career management and career success and while I have some strong opinions and ideas myself I'd be really interested in any readers thoughts on books, blogs, podcasts, speeches, guide books or anything else you've read or seen that you felt made a difference for you in your career. So please leave a comment with the resource, and if possible a couple of reasons why you like it and I'll let you know once I've put together the final list. I think in particular if you have resources that you feel are more relevant to motivated employees in the Asia Pacific I'd really be keen to hear about them.

Hey Steven, one resource I really like is one I read about on your blog. Getting Things Done by David Allen. That book has really helped me in organizing work and it's even become a bit of a fad round my office here in Singapore.

That is a great book Robert, it'll be at the top of the list for "tactical" books to help drive your career success. It's got a LOT of the skills knowledge workers need to manage their workplaces in fast moving environments.

From a Japanese-American perspective the following book was really useful for me -Notes from Toyota-Land. I think for any gaijin Engineer in Japan it would be interesting since it goes into the personal experience of a foreigner working for a Japanese company. I haven't worked for Japanese companies in the USA though so not sure if it's relevant for them

The 5 Patterns of Extraordinary Careers isn't bad - although it's written by a headhunter. It gave me a couple of points when I was at a crossroads last year.

Hi, Steven!

I am Air, I am a reseacher working with #1 search firm in China. It is great to read your blog, it inspires me a lot.

The book that influence me the most is Rich Dad and Poor Dad, it changes my opinion about work totally.

I like RDPD too Air. Some his advice is definitely worth taking to heart. I particularly like his point on not getting attached to the way you make money. It reminded me of Who moved my Cheese. Which is another smart book with some good advice.
