China Recruiting a Booming Market
Link: Online Recruiting Sites: A Booming Market For China's HR Conundrum - SeekingAlpha.
I came across this in December - insight into the HR issues faced in China - "As China’s economy booms, executives said that it is hard to recruit and retain good talent that will help them scale their businesses and enter into the potentially lucrative 2nd and 3rd tier cities of China ." As such, executive search firms and online recruiting sites are on the rise. Recruiting sites 51jobs.com, ChinaHR.com, and Zhaopin.com lead the market, of course with many newcomers to the market (see previous post) who can add more innovation to the difficult task of attracting good talent - especially in a market of 4 million university graduates matriculating every year!

Interesting. Yet another reason why it seems American companies are being so slow in moving out to China's second tier cities.

It really is no surprise that people are having difficulty finding talent in the second tier. so few know much about these cities.
One reason why Chinese firms are much larger in China is that they have the ability to draw on an in house knowledge base for talent.
Many of the employees in Shanghai and Beijing are actually from other cities, and promoting from within is going to have to be a model for the future.
If the largest firms like GE, SIEMENS, Nokia, Intel, Jones Lange Lasalle, and KPMG are able to do it.. it can be done.
What it will take is for firms to put in the upfront investment to really understand the market.
Putting up an ad on jobs 51.com does not count.
