What will recruiting look like in 5 years? Mike Walsh has his point of view which I think is pretty interesting. His ideas on the integration of web advertising and social networking to create real pain for the recruiting industry has real merit.
I am with my man at Recruiting.com Jason Davis when I say all I can see is opportunity. Since most Recruiters are on the cutting edge when it comes to Social Networking you will find they are already finding ways to make real money from LinkedIn and Spoke;-)
I also like his ideas on RSS and advertising availability etc. Two major problems I see are:
1. Free Listings will mean content will increase at exponential rates, no matter how good a search engine is as long as content levels are out of control it will be IMPOSSIBLE to create a shortlist that will be helpful. People will start paying to get listings that are collated by humans eg: www.TheLadders.com.
2. The cultural shift needed to take place from employers and candidates to take up social networking will need to increase at greater rates to be effective. But there is a point where "effective" turns into "too much content". And again as we can see now clients will pay for a human to collate and present that information.
The problems involved aren't processor speed problems they are both cultural and brain speed problems. These don't move as fast as the Web (thank goodness).
