Australia is on the hunt for investors and part of it's advertising campaign is in this month's HBR. I subscribe to HBR and it isn't the first time I have seen the Australian Government paying the big buck s to get their name in front of potential companies. They promote Australia as the "contemporary business base for Asia Pacific investment". Some advantages include:
- Lowest risk of political instability in the Asia Pacific.
- Most multilingual workforce in Asia Pacific region.
- Easiest place in the world to start a business.
Some very attractive points there, although quite debatable I would think. My interest is that it would be really interesting to know who their target market is for this. I have done a lot of recruitment into Australia and their employment levels are higher than ever before, therefore any new investment would seem to have to be fairly focused in order to provide a real benefit for the investor. Service businesses would face a lot of competition for their workforce and manufacturing may struggle to get the cost benefits.
But you wouldn't think they would waste the cost of a full page color ad in HBR for nothing...
